Description

Mount Maunganui College is a modern school with a roll of 1500 students aged 13-17 years. Set on 80,000 sq m of land in downtown Mount Maunganui, the school has a modern gymnasium (with indoor sprint track and rock climbing facilities); all-year heated swimming pool; large playing fields, school hall and library. Specialist teaching areas are provided for hospitality, drama, dance, music, computer technology, science, art and design (with digital printers).

Accommodation homestay,

We arrange high-quality host families that will make sure you enjoy living in Mount Maunganui. Most of our host families are within walking distance of our famous surf beach. Students may also live with an approved designated caregiver or their natural parent(s)

 

Student support

International students get well-supported with specialist staff and have access to school counsellors and careers advisors. A multi-day orientation programme introduces new students to our school and area. Academic pathways are determined and monitored by our specialist international academic advisor.

Sports

Mt Maunganui College offers all major sports in season. Particular strengths are: surfing, water polo, volleyball, basketball and hockey. Several local optional excursions are offered eg Hobbiton, Rotorua, Waihi, Waitomo Caves, White Island and Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Application process

Mount Maunganui College is located in the seaside suburb of Tauranga City, New Zealand’s fifth largest city.

Students who are home-hosted are with caring families, who are monitored and supported by our Homestay Manager.

Mount Maunganui and nearby Papamoa are very desirable places to live, so our area is one of the fastest-growing in New Zealand.

Curriculum

New Zealand Curriculum years 9 to 13. National qualifications (NCEA) levels 1,2 and 3 and University Entrance. All major academic subjects are offered and taught by well-qualified teachers. Additional speciality classes include: Outdoor Education; Hospitality (includes practical cooking); Marine Studies (with dive course and dive trips in Semester 1); Sports Science; as well as all performing arts (Music, Drama, Dance).
