Te Puke High School is a friendly future-focused school with approximately 1000 students. Our school is located in the town of Te Puke, which is situated just 20 minutes from the thriving seaside city of Tauranga and 15 minutes from beautiful white sand beaches. Te Puke High School places great importance on academic achievement. International students can choose their course of study from a wide range of curriculum subjects. As an international student the school will do the utmost to provide you with an educational programme that best meets your learning needs, including English language support if required. In addition, international students are encouraged to get involved in the many sports and arts co-curricular activities on offer. Te Puke High School has made major advances in the use of modern computer technology to enhance student learning. Our highly professional, dedicated teachers provide a supportive learning environment where each student has the opportunity to thrive. Education is considered an important asset for the future lives of all our students.

Student support
  • The Director of International Students. Miss Caroline Stevenson is the first point of contact for the pastoral care and academic programme for international students. On arrival, the student's level of English is evaluated and an appropriate course of study is determined. Should any concerns arise in terms of the student's well-being parents and caregivers are contacted.
  • The Administration and Homestay Manager is in charge of any homestay issues which might occur and also an important part of the pastoral care of our international students. She is there to offer support for students booking trips, extending visas and other administrative duties.
  • House Leaders and the Academic Deans provide another layer of support.
  • The Health and Wellness Centre provides a doctor, nurse, and qualified Guidance Counsellors.
  • Careers Counsellors are available to give career pathway advice.

English as second language

The ESOL programme is designed to meet the individual language learning needs of English language learners. It aims to improve English language skills in receptive and productive modes across a range of social, educational and academic contexts, selected according to individual needs, as preparation for tertiary studies and the world of work. Comprehensive junior and senior ESOL programmes are offered including support with NCEA.

Orienteering: Outdoor Pursuits, Cactus - Bootcamp.

Features of the local area

Te Puke is in an ideal location for international students to have a wonderful New Zealand experience being semi-rural and near the beautiful coastline as well. Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Rotorua are all close by and offer a lot for you to see and do. Auckland is a 30 minute flight away.

Curriculum

Te Puke High School has a full range of academic and practical subjects to enjoy and operates according to the standard New Zealand school year. International students are welcome at any stage of the year; however, starting at the beginning of a term makes it easier to settle into an academic programme. International students are expected to participate in all aspects of the curriculum and are strongly encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities also.
