Upper Hutt College

Greg Mutch

Director of International Students

Description

Upper Hutt College is a co-educational, state secondary school north of Wellington city. It is a school with a tradition of excellence in academic achievement, sport, cultural activities as well as the performing arts. We have International students from Europe, Asia and South America.

Upper Hutt College is a New Zealand high school surrounded by nature on the edge of the capital. We have brand new buildings and facilities after a $20 million rebuild completed at the end of 2014.

There are many sporting and cultural activities.  We have very strong fencing and dragon boating teams.  There are several golf clubs near the school and it is possible to go horse riding in the local area.

Maori culture is strong and celebrated at Upper Hutt College.  There is a marae (traditional Maori meeting house) on the school grounds. All students are welcome to join the very active Maori culture group and to learn some traditional Maori song and dance.

Art, Dance, Photography, Drama, Media Studies and Music classes are offered in our new Creative Arts area.  Hospitality and Technology classes are offered as well as the traditional academic subjects.  Outdoor Education is also a very popular option.

Enjoy the best of both worlds.  At Upper Hutt College you can experience both the cosmopolitan capital city of Wellington with its cafes, shopping, art galleries and museums and at the same time the beautiful river and forest scenery of the Upper Hutt valley.  You can live close to nature on the edge of the capital.  We are just 20 minutes by car from the centre of Wellington. Regular train services give you easy access to the city centre, a scenic trip through the valley and around the harbour, just 35 minutes away.
