Sancta Maria College is a Catholic co-educational school for students in Years 7-13 (age 11-18 years). We aim to educate the whole person: physically, spiritually, academically, socially to reach each person's full potential and a high standard of excellence. The school is located in Botany Downs, which is situated east of the city of Auckland and 20 minutes by car from Auckland's International Airport.

Sancta Maria College is a new secondary school which opened on 27 January 2004. It caters for students in Years 7-13. Sancta Maria College School offers overseas students a complete learning experience: A commitment to preparing students to embrace the future by providing a complete Catholic education in a safe, nurturing community, shaped by our values. A commitment to high academic standards and examination success. A safe learning environment. Easy access to three large universities and three polytechnic institutes. Opportunities to participate in a wide range of sporting and cultural activities.

International students are: Met on arrival. Introduced to the school and local community. Provided with an individual Orientation Programme to make the transition into Sancta Maria College a successful and happy experience. Able to commence at any stage during the year. Assisted with subject selections. Given guidance and support. Given tailored English language courses. Our aim is to help overseas students improve in all areas of the English language. Classes are small and students receive individual assistance from trained and experienced ESOL teachers. Courses include: ESOL (English for speakers of other languages). A full programme is available for all students at all levels. Students are assessed on arrival. Academic courses that prepare students to sit New Zealand school examinations and to gain entry to New Zealand universities and polytechnics. Sancta Maria College School welcomes international fee-paying students. We provide English language support and preparation towards English examinations for University study. Each student's academic progress, attendance and adjustment to Sancta Maria College is closely monitored and reported to parents. Homestays are carefully arranged and monitored.

Administration Cost of $1,000 per year

Tuition Cost: $17,500

Accommodation homestay,

Sancta Maria College helps arrange homestay accommodation close to our school. A fee of $350 is charged to place a student. 24 hour emergency support is available. All adults in the homestay are police vetted. $240 per week.

Student support

Sancta Maria has a special teacher who works with our international students. Her role is to monitor closely our international students. She will discuss their progress with their teachers and offer advice and help to the students. We have a full time school counselor. We appoint Senior International Students are Leaders and their role is to help with the orientation of new students. The international students meet regularly. Special programmes for integrating the students into our school community are arranged including trips to local sites, visits from police, special speakers.

English as second language

All International students are tested for English language skills on entry into Sancta Maria College. An individual English Language programme is prepared. Senior students are placed in small classes to ensure they achieve their university literacy standards. Qualified teaching staff work with students to help them with English language as well as their other specific vocabulary needed for specialist subjects.

Sports

We offer a wide range of sports: Football, Basketball, Rugby, Touch, Tennis, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Tag, Netball, Softball, Rowing, Athletics, Cross Country, Hockey, Cycling, Golf, kilikiti. Performing Arts include, Concert band, Jazz Band, String Orchestra, Worship Band, Barbershop groups, Choir, drama performances, and debating. Chess club, school newspaper as well as inter-house competitions.

Application process

Year 7-8: No entrance test. Beginner English. Must live with close family member.
Year 9-10: No entrance test. Beginner/Intermediate English. Require current school reports.
Years 11-13: No entrance test. Intermediate English level.
Require current school reports. Encourage students to study at least two years before they apply for University study.

Features of the local area

Botany is a newly established suburb in East Auckland. It has a wide ethic diversity. There is a large shopping complex 2 km from Sancta Maria College. It is close to parks and the sea. A large public park has recently been open that has walking and running tracks.
