700 students 2023, 12 International Students.

Situated close to ski-fields, tourist attractions and Christchurch International Airport, Timaru Boys and Timaru Girls are separate high schools offering academic excellence with a strong sporting and cultural focus for years 9 to 13. Both schools share resources with teaching with students traveling from either Timaru Boys’ to Timaru Girls’ or vice versa.

Our Aviation Programme is extremely successful and popular, both the 10-week course and a long-term course and opportunity to gain a Private Pilots’ Licence (PPL) with students moving onto a career path through Massey University, University of New South Wales and University of South Australia.
Ski Academy is offered in terms 2 and 3 where students ski and snowboard in the weekend at Mt Hutt and also ski in Queenstown in the school holidays.

Timaru Boys’ High offer an excellent Outdoor Education Programme with more of our International Students participating and gaining a real New Zealand outdoor experience. Learning in a gender specific environment has been proven to be more productive for students catering for individual needs. With many courses on offer, a wide variety of subjects with programmes developed for each student including ESOL. With a limit of 30 international students per School. We offer homestay options and limited boarding, we pride ourselves with strong links with the International Director and Homestay Coordinator. During the term students from both schools participate in sport like Badminton, Volleyball and Futsal there are many opportunities for the students to mix and enjoy attractions and activities.

We have close contact with the students during school, within the extra curricular activities and within the homestay situation. Homestays are very carefully chosen.

Our small city is set around Caroline Bay. We are within 2 hours driving from New Zealand 2nd largest city, Christchurch, and 1.5 hours from the beautiful lakes district, ski fields and the great outdoors. Within these regions, we have many tourist attractions including fishing and hunting.
