Description

Waitaki Girls’ High School offers modern, high tech facilities with well-resourced classrooms. Situated in spacious open grounds with established trees and gardens, the school strives for and expects excellence in academic, cultural, sporting and social activities. Our smaller school roll ensures each student is known and valued as an individual. We offer a wide range of subjects and programmes with special features to meet the needs of our international students.

2019 Full Year $12,500.00 (Includes Government levy)

Accommodation

Waitaki House, within the school grounds, provides excellent boarding facilities in a caring, positive and structured environment for girls requiring accommodation away from home. All international students stay for their first year and then can chose to go to a homestay. Approved homestay accommodation is provided during term holidays and long weekends.

Student support

The International Director is available 24/7 if required. Hostel staff can also offer support. The matron is a qualified nurse. The school has a guidance councellor, each year level has a dean and students are also suported by their Whanau (family) or form room teacher.

Type of programs Long-term programs (study for 1 year or more), Short-term programs (study for 3-6-9 month), Study Groups, We offer both full time study and short term programmes. Short term can be a little as one week or up to three months. These can be individual and/or group programmes.
English as second language

ESOL programmes are tailored to meet the needs of individual students. The number of classes are determined by the student’s learning needs; Preparation classes for IELTS and TOEFL are available. Younger students sit the Speech New Zealand ESOL examination.

Sports

With over fifty sporting and cultural groups, we are able to offer a wide range of opportunities for girls to excel in their chosen fields. It is the School’s expectation that all students will be active in a sport or a cultural activity of their choice.

Application process

There are no specific entry requirements as all international students are assessed on arrival as part of our Orientation Programme. Features of the local area

Oamaru is a smaller, safe community with few distractions. On the east coast of New Zealand, the Pacific Ocean is at our doorstep. Famous for its historic buildings, blue penguins, Whitestone Cheese and Rainbow Confectionary. Close to a major city, the Lakes District and ski fields. It has a moderate climate and pure clean air.

We follow the New Zealand Schools curriculum. We are a PB4L School (Positive Behaviour for Learning)
