Maria Chabera

Director of International Students / Assistant Principal

Description

Pompallier College is a co-educational, integrated public school that was historically established by the Catholic Church. The school is named after Bishop Jean Baptiste Francois Pompallier who visited the North Island of NZ in the 19th century.
Many Europeans may perceive by the name of our school, that we are an old-fashioned, traditional institution, however, we are just the opposite. Pompallier is a modern, vibrant school with an excellent record of educational achievements, rich in diverse cultural and sporting activities offered to all students.
The school is located in a large green area only minutes from Whangarei town centre. The current roll is about 500 students from Year 7 to Year 13. For more information please visit our Pompallier College website.

Our special character is shown in the promotion of social justice and ethical life throughout the academic curriculum and co-curricular events. Students are often involved in charitable work, volunteering their service to the local community, as well as in environmental projects.
The International Department cares for up to 18 students each year, with students from Japan, Thailand, South Korea, China, Italy, Chile and Germany. International students are very keen on our sporting and cultural programs, especially those which include interaction with Maori people.
The subject choice is versatile from traditional academic subjects to specialized courses like Business Studies, Media Studies or Electronics. Tuition in advanced French, Russian or other languages can be arranged by the college. International Students enrolled at Pomapllier will attend one of the most successful schools in Northland, New Zealand and learn in a clean, green and healthy environment.

The surroundings are ideal for students who enjoy adventure and are keen to try new sports or recreational activities. Our outdoor education program can accommodate students who are interested in golf, hockey, surfing, diving, kayaking and many others activities. The number of International students is restricted to 20 which allow full integration in school life and an authentic experience of Kiwi lifestyle and tradition.
