Description

Nayland College is a coeducational high School of approximately 1000 students located just 7km from central Nelson and very close to Nelson airport and Tahuna Beach. Nayland College has a proud tradition of academic successes and has hosted international students from all over the world for over 20 years. Students are encouraged to become fully involved in sporting, cultural and recreational programmes. High standards of conduct are expected and emphasis is placed on working hard in a positive and supportive environment. Nayland College has modern buildings and equipment including over 300 specialist computers, two gymnasiums, art, business, music and performance arts suites, tennis courts and large swimming complex.

Student support

Nayland College invests strongly in its support services for international student. A full time International Director co-ordinates the International Student Programme at Nayland College. An International Adviser provides one on one opportunities for students to have questions answered. A homestay Co-ordinator makes and monitors all homestay placements. The Office Manager provides parents, students and agents with the information that they need to make a successful application. We have two ESOL teachers who teach 5 ESOL classes and run Education Outside the Classroom activities and Cambridge English classes.

English as second language

Nayland College offers ESOL classes, as well as mainstream options, to provide a range of opportunities for students from beginners to advanced English speakers.

Extracurricular activities include: Cambridge English, Chess; Christian Group; Concert Band; Dance Company; Debating; Jazz Band; Languages Club; Musical Production -This Year And Every Alternate Year; Nayland Environmental Sustainability Team; Rugby Club; Orchestra; Vocal Company; Rock Climbing; Shakespeare and Theatre Sports.

Sports

Term 1 and Term 4 have summer sports activities including: Touch Rugby; Volleyball; Cricket; Tennis Softball. Students Can Also Join Local Sports Clubs To Do Athletics; Cycling; Mountain Biking, Archery; Badminton; Squash; Bowls; Boxing; Canoeing; Climbing; Croquet; Dance Sport; Golf; Gymnastics; Swimming; Multi-sports; Orienteering; Rowing; Sailing.

Terms 3 and 4 Have Similar Sports, including: Netball; Basketball; Hockey; Rugby, Football (Soccer). Students Can Also Join Local Clubs For Sports Such As: Skiing/Snowboarding, cycling & Mountain biking; Bowls; Boxing; Climbing; Dance Sport; Golf; Gymnastics.

Application process

We have no specific entry tests or interviews but it is expected that students will have at least minimal English language skills.

Nelson is a small, safe town of approximately 50,000 people, situated at the top of the South Island.

Nelson is the Sunshine capital of New Zealand. It is well known for its outdoor activities, art and crafts. It is surrounded by three National parks which offer golden beaches, water sports and alpine adventures.
