Description

We are a progressive, innovative and high achieving school. We place a very high emphasis on all students developing a positive identity as a successful learner and achieving in a caring, inclusive learning environment. We provide high quality education and care to international students.

Tuition costs

It is NZ$12,420 per year.  The fee by term is shown on our website.  Enrolment fee of $200, Administration fee of $300, and Homestay management fee of $300 will apply to all the students. Subject fees to cover workbooks, materials, field trips will also incur; the subject fee ranges from nil to $200 depending on each subject.

Accommodation

We arrange homes-stay accommodation for all of our international students. We find a host family that will suit their interests and needs. All of our host families are caring people who will treat them as a true member of their family. It is $225 per week.

Student support

International students have an International Students’ Dean who supports their school and home life. They also have a homestay co-ordinator who they can come and see any time. The International Department runs many activities such as kayaking and black water-rafting and takes students to different parts of New Zealand and to local attractions in the vibrant Taupo community.

Type of programs Long-term programs (study for 1 year or more), Short-term programs (study for 3-6-9 month), We accept Short-term International Students. The length of their stay can be as short as two weeks.

We run a small class of ESOL 4 hours a week.

Sports

Tauhara College provides many performing arts, sporting and cultural activities and has an extensive outdoor education programme. These opportunities include athletics, badminton, cricket, cross country, equestrian, golf, hockey, kayaking, rugby, football, netball, basketball, volleyball, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding/skiing, shooting, sailing, swimming, touch rugby, tennis, and triathlon/multisport. We encourage all our students to participate and find this a perfect way to develop collaborative skills and make new friends.

Application process

Students need to fill out our documents (Application Form and Contract), and send them with their most recent school report and a letter of recommendation (our form) filled out by one of their teachers.

Features of the local area

Taupo is a picturesque town located in the Central North Island. It has great facilities for sports, cultural activities and recreation. As a popular tourist city, it has a lot of attractive shops, restaurants, cafés and tourists’ activities, including bungee jumping and skydiving. Taupo is also the venue for many international and domestic events, such as the International Ironman race. The main ski fields of the North Island are very close and the township is located on the shores of a beautiful lake.

Curriculum

We offer a wide range of academic, vocational and specialist subjects. International students may undertake NCEA 1 to 3 levels. University Entrance is available from Level 3. We make extensive use of technology and ‘anywhere, anytime’ learning to personalise opportunities for our students. The school also offers a range of exciting industry based courses, which give students an insight into wider career options.
