Simon Johnston

Assistant Head of Admissions

Description Saint Kentigern is a leader among New Zealand's top private schools. With a Presbyterian heritage, it offers a world of opportunity for boys and girls. The Middle College for students in Years 7–10 is where most of our students start their College education at Saint Kentigern. The Middle College programmes are designed to support students to learn how to learn, to best prepare them for their academic life in the Senior College. These include tailored academic, pastoral care, leadership and service programmes. Excellence is a key focus in the Middle College and there are opportunities to participate in an unrivalled choice of out of classroom activities. In recognition that boys and girls learn differently in their early teens and often achieve better outcomes in single-gender classrooms, Saint Kentigern College Middle College students are taught separately for all core curriculum subjects.. The Senior College has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in our academic, sporting, cultural and service programmes and is recognised as a top co-educational, independent Senior College in New Zealand. Saint Kentigern offers Senior College students a choice of academic pathways. As an IB World School, our students in Years 12 and 13 can elect to either study towards an International Baccalaureate Diploma or the New Zealand qualification, NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement). Whichever qualification a student chooses, you can be assured they will be very well prepared for future pathways. For all students, there is a focus on collaborative and student-centred learning, enhanced with innovative use of digital technologies in all the learning programmes across the campus. Many of our students who graduate with NCEA and IB Diplomas go on to earn places at some of the best New Zealand and overseas universities.
