Auckland Grammar School is one of New Zealand most prestigious schools. The School is well-known for its strong 154-year history of academic excellence and for developing well-rounded, global citizens who go to study at the best universities worldwide in the USA, UK, Australia and NZ.

Auckland Grammar has a school roll of 2600 students, including 110 international students who contribute to the dynamic and engaging school environment. Teamwork, pride, and determination are key attributes of school life and students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities at Auckland Grammar in sport, art, music and culture.

The School offers two qualification pathways for university entrance with 60% of its students studying Cambridge International Exams, and 40% NCEA. In 2022, two Auckland Grammar international students achieved Top in the World for AS Mathematics. In addition, each year Auckland Grammar students receive elite NZQA government scholarship awards for NZ university enrolment.

Auckland Grammar’s 2022 ERO Report states “International students are well cared for and experience high-quality programmes. They are integrated into the school community and participate fully in a variety of cultural and sporting activities. Many international students achieve high levels of academic success and are well supported to transition successfully to further education.”

Tuition costs

NZD$23,750 per annum

Accommodation homestay,

Homestay families and student support are managed by our International Student Welfare Manager. The cost for full board, 3 meals per day is NZD$380 per week/46 weeks for year-long students and calculated per night for a term-only enrollers.

Student support

The International Department provides a comprehensive orientation programme, academic mentoring and coaching, a student buddy programme, peer tutoring, weekly cohort meetings, and university representative visits. The Student Support Department provides students with guidance in careers, university applications, and scholarships, as well as counselling and general well-being support. As a leading academic school, it is important for students to have the right motivation as well as the academic potential to be able to succeed within this rigorous education system. We have an excellent support system for students to aid in their success, however individual dedication, hard work and commitment will ensure they excel and be able to take advantage of the many opportunities offered by the school.

48+ sports clubs, 5+ music performance groups, 6 football fields, 6 tennis courts, water turf field hockey, 3 rugby fields, 2 indoor sports centres, 1 swimming pool heated, all-weather basketball courts…excellent coaching staff and teams for both high performing athletes as well as social grades.

Application process

Students are interviewed in-person or by digital means as part of the admission process. Students require good grades and English language skills suitable for their age group.

Auckland Grammar is within a short walk of the Newmarket shopping district including the largest Mall in New Zealand, the University of Auckland, and the Auckland Domain. It is conveniently located in the heart of Auckland, near good transportation links and close to the harbour and swimming beaches.
